Building on a century of Australian heritage, KR Castlemaine, formed through the 2003 merger of Darling Downs Bacon Corporative Company Limited and Castlemaine Bacon Company (originators of the nationally recognized KR and Castlemaine brands), is now a proud part of the DON Smallgoods portfolio. Known for their country-style hams, bacons, and smallgoods, bringing simple, honest flavors to Australian tables, KR Castlemaine is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability at its main facility in Castlemaine.

A significant 3.5MW solar farm, comprising over 9,000 panels and spanning 27 hectares, is currently under construction. This ambitious project required SEDAC to construct a new solar substation and install a 700m underground 22kV feeder connecting to the plant’s main switchboard. SEDAC also expertly managed complexities such as preserving a box ironbark forest, installing new 22kV switchgear for the solar feeder, and deploying 2km of fibre optic connections linking the solar farm to both the site network and Powercor, the local Distribution Network Service Provider.
