Eastland Shopping Centre – Replacement of Main Switchboards

Eastland Shopping Centre, a super-regional complex and the fourth largest in Australia, located in Ringwood, Victoria, has undergone a significant electrical infrastructure upgrade. Opened on 31 October 1967 and now home to over 340 retail stores and services, the centre’s main switchroom required modernization.

SEDAC successfully replaced four heavy current main switchboards with robust AS61439 modular switchboards. These new MSBs feature ABB premier range switchgear, thermal viewing windows, surge protection devices, and multiple sub-meters.

A key challenge of the project was maintaining uninterrupted operation of the busy shopping centre. This was achieved through close collaboration with the Distribution Network Service Provider, Ausnet, which facilitated the connection of 5MVA of temporary generation.

This temporary supply enabled Ausgrid to complete essential substation works before the seamless replacement of the four main switchboards (each rated over 2000A), all while Eastland continued to trade without disruption.
